ScusaMedia

Michigan marketing agency for contractors and service businesses

Scusa Media is a Michigan marketing agency headquartered in Auburn Hills, in Metro Detroit. We build the whole revenue system for Michigan businesses: ads, Google Local Services Ads, websites, SEO, video and CRM follow-up. Our specialty is contractors, home services and e-commerce, and we work with any business that wants more customers. Michigan has its own rules about what a contractor's ad must say and a winter that moves demand around the calendar, so a plan copied from Florida or Texas does not fit.

Michigan's license rule for contractor ads

If you hold a Michigan residential builder or maintenance and alteration contractor license, Michigan Administrative Code R 338.1532 says your name, license number and business address, as shown on the license, must appear in all advertising. A phone number or post office box alone is not allowed. That covers roofers, remodelers, siding, concrete, carpentry and most other home improvement trades.

We treat every ad, landing page, website footer, Google Business Profile and truck wrap as advertising, and we build the license details in from the start. It costs nothing and it is one less thing to worry about.

The same rule bars promising a customer a cash or merchandise bonus for showing their home to others or for orders you get from people they send. If you want a referral program, design it with your attorney.

Google Local Services Ads in Michigan

Local Services Ads put you at the top of Google with a Google Verified badge, and you pay per lead instead of per click. Before you go live, Google checks your business, your insurance, background checks and the license your trade needs. For most Michigan home improvement trades that is a LARA residential builder or maintenance and alteration contractor license. HVAC work needs a Michigan mechanical contractor license, and plumbers and electricians need their state licenses.

Snow removal is its own Local Services Ads category, which gives Michigan landscapers who plow a way to keep the phone ringing in winter.

A Michigan marketing calendar

January and February: furnace and no-heat calls peak in cold snaps. Outdoor trades book spring work with early offers and deposits, and the winter home show season starts.

March and April: roofing, landscaping, concrete and paving leads climb as the snow melts. Spring home and garden shows bring a wave of leads that need same-day follow-up.

May through August: the busy season for outdoor trades, AC repair, patios, decks and restaurant patios. Keep ads running, but steer the budget to the jobs you can schedule.

September and October: furnace tune-ups, roof replacements before the snow and the last push for paving and concrete. Snow removal contracts sell best before the first storm.

November and December: asphalt plants and road inspections shut down for the cold. Emergency heat and roof leak calls take over, and smart contractors start filling next spring's calendar.

Where we work in Michigan

Our roots are in Metro Detroit, where we meet clients in person and shoot video on job sites. We have local pages for Detroit, Auburn Hills, Troy, Novi, Rochester Hills, Sterling Heights and Ann Arbor. Across the rest of Michigan, from Lansing and Flint to Grand Rapids and Traverse City, we run the same system with strategy calls on video and shoots planned with your crew or a local shooter.

Not just contractors

We work with any business that wants more customers. Our specialty is service businesses and e-commerce, and in Michigan that also means restaurants, lenders, realtors, retailers, jewelers and B2B suppliers. The system is the same everywhere: get found, answer fast, follow up, and measure what turns into revenue.

Michigan marketing questions

Do Michigan contractors have to put their license number in ads?

Yes, if you hold a Michigan residential builder or maintenance and alteration contractor license. Rule R 338.1532 requires your name, license number and business address, as shown on the license, in all advertising. A phone number alone is not enough.

Can a Michigan contractor run Google Local Services Ads?

Yes. Google checks your business, insurance, background and license first. For most home improvement trades that is a LARA residential builder or maintenance and alteration contractor license, and HVAC needs a mechanical contractor license. Once you pass, you get the Google Verified badge and pay per lead.

When should a Michigan contractor start marketing for spring?

In January and February. Outdoor trades that book spring jobs in winter, with early offers and deposits, start the season with a full schedule. Waiting until the snow melts means fighting for the same homeowners as everyone else.

Do you work with businesses outside Metro Detroit?

Yes. We work across Michigan and the rest of the country. Ads, websites, CRM and reporting work the same anywhere. In Metro Detroit we also come on site for meetings and video.

Do you only work with contractors?

No. We work with any business that wants more customers, with a specialty in service businesses and e-commerce.
